Chasing 160-run target, Kings XI Punjab lost skipper Adam Gilchrist early against Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede stadium.
Harbhajan Singh started the bowling for Mumbai and struck immediately as he trapped Punjab skipper in the very first over.
Sent in to bat, Sachin Tendulkar (51) and Ambati Rayudu (51) helped Mumbai Indians post 159/5 against Kings XI Punjab in their Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede stadium.
Tndulkar hit a six and three boundaries in his 45-ball innings and added valuable 95-run second wicket partnership with Rayudu as they resurrected Mumbai innings after losing Davy Jacobs early.
Rayudu was at his usual aggressive mood as he slammed a six and eight fours in his rapid 37-ball knock.
In the final overs, Kieron Pollard (20) and Rohit Sharma (18) played quick cameos to lead Mumbai innings after they lost Sachin and Rayudu in quick succession.
Pollard hit two huge sixes and a four in his 11-ball knock whereas Sharma smashed three boundaries in his 11-ball innings.
For Punjab, pacer Ryan Harris (2-33) and leg-spinner Piysh Chawla (2-37) shared two Mumbai Indians wickets each.
Spinner Bipul Sharma gave Punjab an early breakthrough as he clean bowled Mumbai’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jacobs in the third over.
Adam Gilchrist’s decision to bring in a spinner early paid him good dividend as Sharma struck in his first over to reduce the hosts to 14/1 in 2.3 overs.
