Shobhit Modi

A 20-year-old IT student, son of the general manager of a public sector company, was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants just a few hundred metres from his home in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj on Thursday night, in what police suspect is a brutal vendetta murder.

The victim, Shobhit Modi , an alumnus of Delhi Public School R K Puram, was found stumbling towards gate number three of C-5 Vasant Kunj by the guard around 9.50pm. When Shobhit slumped on the car barrier and did not move, the guard found at least four stab injuries on his chest, abdomen and shoulders.

He was rushed to Fortis Hospital by his family after a friend, who called up on Modi's phone and came to know from the guard that he had been stabbed, informed his father. The hospital declared Modi dead and called the cops who are now investigating the case.

The murder has left a trail of unanswered questions after it was confirmed that the motive was not robbery . Shobhit's iPhone, Tissot wristwatch and cash had not been taken, leading the police to suspect he was attacked for revenge or enmity.

The Vasant Vihar-Vasant Kunj stretch had earlier seen at least two high-profile murders. Journalist Soumya Vishwanathan was shot dead and IT executive Jigeesha Ghosh was murdered in the upscale area.

Shobhit was a second year IT (engineering) student at CITM Faridabad and described himself as an ethical hacker. He was to appear for his exam from Monday.

A friend rings up Shobhit. Guard answers phone, tells caller about stabbing. The caller informs Shobit's family

10pm:
Family takes him to hospital, he's declared dead Police suspect revenge killing since Shobhit's iPhone, watch and cash are intact.
